The profession of the interior design deals with any adjustment plan or decoration of the inner space of the building. The person whose work is related with interior design is known as interior designer. For enhancing the look of the space, an interior designer works on furniture, walls, windows, doors, lights and furnishings. The role of an interior designer is to use the elements like lights and furniture etc and then to develop a safe, aesthetically pleasing and functional space for the user of the space.

To become an interior designer, an individual must have sufficient knowledge regarding architecture, decoration, product design and environmental psychology. The role of an interior designer is to decorate all types of places like theaters, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, shopping maals and residences. Interior designers need to be familiar with the architectural details of the buildings like the construction codes and the floor plans to fulfill their responsibilities completely.
The concept of fashion designer came into existence in 1720. During this time the men from various backgrounds worked as fashion designers in Western Europe. For example, in London the position of the interior designer was filled by the upholsterer while in Paris the merchandisers filled the position of interior designer. At the time of interior designing emergence in Europe and British architects were known as interior designers. Robert Adam is the most famous neoclassical architect of the history and he is also considered as the most famous historical interior designer. Similarly, William Kent was a painter who was also recognized as a famous interior designer. Some of the most famous names of interior designers include Sir William Chambers, Dominique Daguerre and James Wyatt. During this period, the revival of Gothic and Rococo styles in England was brought about by the interior designers. When the profession of the interior design was commercialized then companies started art furnishings.
Interior designing is considered as one of the most significant profession nowadays, therefore, some of the most famous modern interior designers include Lenygon, Morant, Jeanselme and Charles Alaoine .
There are two major specializations of interior designing including residential design and commercial design. In the residential interior design, the houses of the people are decorated by the fashion designers. On the other hand, the commercial interior decorations include hospitals, schools and offices. There are various disciplines in interior designing which include computer technology, professional skills, promotional skills, aesthetic disciplines and craft skills etc. Therefore, an interior designing is the profession of creativity and innovation.
