The Modern Scanner Simplifies Business
|
The modern scanner has made the process of saving and recalling documents and information far simpler. Today, scanners come in all shapes and sizes, from desktop scanners to portable laptop scanners. In the future, we may even see mobile devices that can scan small documents and business cards. While a basic scanner is great for archiving papers and files, more advanced scanners can go even further; some scanners come equipped with Optical Character Recognition, or OCR, technology. This technology allows the text that is scanned to be interpreted by your computer. Once you computer has interpreted the text on a paper you have scanned, it can store the information in any format you like, such as a standard text document. If you scan something like a business card with an Optical Character Recognition scanner, you can even import the data from the business card into a contact management program like Outlook. Optical Character Recognition really simplifies the process of getting raw information into your computer; with a good quality scanner, you should never have to retype text from a paper in order to get the information into your computer; all you have to do is scan the paper and the technology does the work for you. Another type of scanner that is becoming very popular is the portable scanner. This kind of scanner allows business people to have the capability to scan business cards and documents no matter where they are. Portable devices like this are even small enough to take on a business trip, or to slip into your briefcase. You can even carry a portable device with you on a plane. Usually, these devices weigh no more than two pounds, so you will not have a problem taking them with you wherever you go. If you are a busy businessperson, you have probably been to a lot of conferences over the course of your career. When you go to conferences, you usually get a plethora of business cards within the span of a few days. These business cards are very important because they could be the key to landing business deals and making connections with the right people; but keeping all of those business cards organized is always a problem; before you know it, your briefcase is stuffed with business cards and you are just about ready to dump them into the trash. But with a portable scanner, you can scan all of the information from the business cards into your computer right away. You can even throw away the cards once you are done. Once the contact information is in your computer, you can take notes about whom you have talked to and what you talked about, and you can even set reminders to follow up with potential leads.
